QMGS v Windsor

Another tough match for Queen Mary's third team. A very close game against Windsor High School ended in a 6 all draw. Well done to Dhiren Bahia for winning his match again and for being unbeaten so far this season.

A Difficult Away Fixture . . . .

Last Friday saw the second and third team in action against Wolverhampton Grammar:

It was a tough night for the second team who eventually lost 9-3 to Wolverhampton.

The third team faired a little better eventually losing 6.5 to 5.5 in a nail biting encounter which could of gone either way. Well done to Amaron Bhatti and Dhiren Bahia who were the most successful players on the night, credit to the Bloxwich chess club connection again!

A Good Start to the 2015 - 2016 Season!

Division 2:

The first team started with a hard fought victory over Camp Hill's second team. The still undefeated Ben Nevett Farman won both his games and was the first to finish. Karthik Selvan, in his debut first team match, also won both his games. Other notable performances include Saif-Ullan Hussain and Abu-Bakr Ahmed both managing to win a game after being called into the first team last minute. Both players started playing in the fourth division only 3 years ago. They have progressed considerably over the years, and are now competent first team players!

Division 4:

A second victory of the season for the third team puts them in a commanding position in their division, with 3 games left to play they have a distinct possibility of winning some silverware! Especially well done to Amaron Bhatti for winning both his board 1 games.

Under 13 Division:

A tough start to the season for our fourth team with a difficult fixture against Camp Hill's third team. However some of the year 7s did manage to win games and all players will have doubtlessly learnt many valuable lessons that will serve them well in the future.

Bloxwich Chess Club

Finally, a big thanks to Ray Dolan at Bloxwich Chess Club, who coaches many of our players and enters them for additional competitions outside of the Birmingham Junior League. QMGS 0.5 Wolverhampton Grammar 5.5

A tough end to the season for the third team, however well done to Arjun Sandhu for managing a draw in a very tough fixture.

QMGS 3.5 Queensbridge 2.5

A good result for Queens Mary's third team in a nail biting match against Queensbridge. Poised at 2.5 to Queen Marys and 1.5 Queensbridge, it was all to play for in the final two games. After 50 minutes of hard fought chess Zac Elliot won his game on board 2 to guarantee the win for Queen Marys. Well done to Zain Ashraf and Amrit Singh for also winning their games.

Closed Play Tournament

A mixed team of years 7, 8 and 9 players came fourth in the closed play tournament at Kings Edwards Camp Hill school this year. Most of the team managed to win at least 1 out of 3 matches. However, well done to the year 7 players who all won at least 2 out of 3 of their games and especially well done to Amrit Singh who won 2.5 out of 3 and Amron Bahti who won all 3. Clearly some bright prospects for the future.

Queen Mary's 3.5 King Edwards Five Ways 2.5

The first team end their season with a win in a dramatic match against Five Ways. Initially things didn't look to be going our way with two early losses. However, Liam Conner managed to win his game and record his first win for the first team this season, closely followed by Sarvesh Rajdev marking his debut in the first team with a draw. With the scores finally balanced at 1.5 to Queen Mary's and 2.5 to Five Ways, the last 2 games were very tightly contested and nerve racking for both players and spectators. Ben Nevett Farman finally managed to break the dead lock in his game and record a win to level the scores. Fahim Nasiri's game couldn't have been closer! After around one and a half hours of play the game was still very finely balanced. Fahim, with just the slightest of a material advantages (one pawn). Eventually, Fahim managed to take advantage of this and complete the come back for the team. Well done to everyone involved.

Especially well done to Fahim Nasiri for winning all of his games this season whilst playing on board one against the best players in the Birmingham Junior Chess league. There isn't a trophy for the leagues best player, but if there was he would have won it this year.

Also, very well done to Ben Nevett Farman, who has won all of his games in the first team this season.
